How Wishlist Matching Works
One of the most common questions we get from new recipients is: "Do I just scroll through listings and hope something fits?" The answer is no. Adalwin's wishlist system is designed to work the other way around — you tell us what you need, and we find it for you.
Creating a Wishlist
When you sign up as a recipient on Adalwin, one of the first things you can do is create a wishlist. This isn't a vague "I need furniture" request. It's specific:
- Category: What type of item? Furniture, electronics, clothing, books, etc.
- Description: What exactly do you need? "A study table for my daughter" or "A mixer grinder, any brand."
- Preferred condition: Are you okay with items that need minor repair, or do you need something in good working condition?
- Location: Your area in the city, so we can match you with nearby donors for easier logistics.
- Urgency: Is this something you need soon, or can you wait for the right match?
You can add up to 10 items to your wishlist at any time.
How Matching Happens
Every time a donor lists an item and it passes volunteer verification, our matching engine runs. It compares the verified item against all active wishlists, scoring each potential match on several factors:
- Category and type match: Does the item fit what was requested?
- Condition alignment: Does the item's verified condition meet the recipient's minimum preference?
- Geographic proximity: How close are the donor and recipient? Closer matches mean easier logistics.
- Urgency weighting: Recipients who've flagged urgent needs get priority in the matching queue.
- Trust scores: Both parties' trust scores are factored in — higher trust on both sides means smoother transactions.
When a strong match is found, both the donor and recipient receive a notification. The recipient can view the item details, photos, and the volunteer's verification notes before accepting.
After the Match
Once both parties confirm, logistics kicks in. Depending on the item and location, delivery happens through one of three channels:
- Recipient pickup: For smaller items or when the recipient prefers to collect
- Volunteer delivery: Our volunteer network handles transport for local matches
- Logistics partner: For larger items or cross-city matches, we coordinate with delivery partners
After delivery, the recipient confirms receipt through the app. They can optionally share a photo and a note — which goes back to the donor as feedback. This closes the loop and updates both parties' trust scores.
Why This Matters
The wishlist system exists because donation shouldn't be a lottery. If a family needs a fan before summer hits Pune in March, they shouldn't have to check the app daily and hope. They add it to their wishlist, and the system works in the background.
Since launching, our wishlist matching has connected over 2,000 needs with available items — with an average match time of 6 days. That's the power of structured generosity: it finds its way to where it's needed most.
